WORKSHOPS

Delegates will be able to select which workshops to attend on the day.


1)   “E-asy does it” - content creation made simple

Led by:  Tracey Morris & David Rowe, JISC Regional Support Centre South West

This workshop will explore some free content creation tools and techniques which are quick and easy to learn.  During the session, delegates will have the opportunity to get hands on and try these tools for themselves.


2)   Functional Skills - your learners’ key
       to success

Led by:  Rosie Brooke, Functional Skills Support Programme

Successful people often have high levels of functional skills ie. they use English, Maths and ICT to solve problems.  We will look at a clip from the TV series "Dragons’ Den", analyse how mastery of functional skills supports success and consider how these skills could help your learners.


3)   Institute for Learning - Professional Formation
      (applying for A/QTLS)

Led by:  Kerin Burke, IfL CETT Connection for the SW Region

A chance to explore what is involved in applying for Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS) and Associate Teacher Learning & Skills (ATLS) and how you might support staff to gain this status, focussing on ways to support:  new staff, existing staff and those moving into learning and skills from other contexts.


4)   Talking Strategy -  messages for managers

Led by:   John Francis - LSIS Teaching & Learning Programme

Using the LSIS discussion card activity to encourage managers to engage with the different components of the Teaching and Learning Programme.  This workshop will support managers in developing and reviewing their strategy for embedding the Programme into their overall improvement strategy, stimulate discussion and interaction, and direct managers to further LSIS resources.


5)   Catalyst Programme: Business Interchange

Led by:   Paul Kettle & Celine Pinter, LLUK

"Business Interchange" is funded by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (DBIS), to help teachers, trainers and tutors update their vocational expertise.
This workshop is designed to raise awareness of the programme, and give you the tools to identify potential hosts, and help make this programme a sustainable, long term offering, to benefit teaching staff, learners and you!

6)   Institute for Learning - Integrating CPD into
      organisational processes

Led by:  Kerin Burke, IfL CETT Connection for the SW Region

A chance to explore ways to support staff to plan and record their CPD and ways to integrate this effectively into organisational processes such as appraisal, lesson observations, etc.


7)   14-19 Leadership, Management & Workforce
       Support - new ways of meeting needs across
       the South West

Led by:
Ann-Marie Warrender, LSIS/NCSL 14-19 Leadership & Management Development Programme
Zia Perriman, SSAT 14-19 Workforce Support Programme

This joint workshop will include:
•   updates on what is new in the 14-19 Reform National Agenda, summary of the range of support for Diploma preparations, General Qualifications reform and the Foundation Learning Tier
•   recent developments with14-19 Consortia in the SW
•   information about new arrangements and support available from September 2009
•   new web site demonstration


8)   What’s New in Skills for Life?

Led by:  Terri Williams,  LSIS Skills for Life Quality Improvement Programme

This will be a short workshop session to provide information on the new LSIS Skills for Life Improvement Programme.  The session will also provide an opportunity for participants to formally express an interest to join the programme.


9)   Teacher Educator Support & Development
       (SWitch CETT project activities)

Led by:  Jim Crawley, Bath Spa University

A chance to explore ways we can support and develop Teacher Educators within the region and enhance the quality of our Initial Teacher Training (ITT) offer, including considering ways to build Teacher Educator capacity by encouraging new potential teacher educators from across the  range sectors within learning and skills.


10)   Improving teaching & learning with
         technology

Led by:   Ruth Simons, e-CPD Programme

Providers will be invited to review case studies and examples of successful strategies for developing staff skills and confidence with technology. There will be an opportunity for participants to share their own examples and practices. Information about the e-CPD programme and how it supports a whole organisation approach to developing an e-confident workforce will be provided.


In addition to the workshops, all contributors will be available in the “market place” to offer further activities, exploration of resources and discussion about the support they can offer.
