ONGOING FUNDING
COMMUNITYBUILDERS HAS RECOMMENCED ITS GRANT-GIVING ACTIVITIES - Communitybuilders has started giving out funds again, its administrators have announced. The £70m grant and loan fund was set up by the Communities and Local Government department to support organisations that provide community cohesion services, and is administered by the Social Investment Business. It has been open to applications but has not been making payments since the coalition government took power. Further information is available here. FINANCIAL INCLUSION FUNDING - The Friends Provident Foundation makes grants of up to £200,000 to not-for profit organisations for projects that address financial exclusion within disadvantaged communities. Further information is available here. (Posted 2/9/10)
WOODLAND TRUST TREE PLANTING PACKS - These are managed and distributed by the Woodland Trust. Schools and Community Groups throughout the UK can apply for packs for planting trees. The Trust has a range of tree packs to suit schools, youth groups and communities. Applicants can receive practical packs and advice for ensuring a successful planting. SKINNERS COMPANY - The Skinners' Company Lady Neville Charity was formally set up in 1978 and its aim is to provide grants that will make a clear and significant contribution to grassroots charitable organizations working in designated priority areas. One-off grants of up to £1,000 are made to small registered charities and not-for-profit organisations. The priority areas are Disability, Local Heritage, Local Community and Performing & Visual Arts. The Lady Neville Charity will accept applications from: registered charities or not-for-profit organisations based in the United Kingdom and organisations employing less than the equivalent of four full-time paid staff, which are working in the following priority areas: Disability, local heritage, local community and performing and visual arts. JAMES CAAN FOUNDATION - The foundation was set up by Dragon’s Den investor James Caan in 2006, and supports UK charities as well as education initiatives in Pakistan.
The objectives of the foundation are as follows:
1. For the public benefit to promote education (including social and physical training) in such ways as the charity trustees think fit.
2. To assist in the treatment and care of those suffering from mental or physical illness of any description or in need of rehabilitation as a result of such illness. This can be through the provision of facilities for work and recreation, or the support of research into the causes and cures of diseases
3. To support any other purpose which is deemed to be charitable.
There is no set deadline, so applications may be made at any time.

BRITANNIA BUILDING SOCIETY FOUNDATION GRANTS - The foundation offers grants for charities and schools to carry out educational projects, with a focus on promoting numeracy and financial literacy and provides an annual £500,000 funding pot. The minimum grant award available is £1,000 and the maximum award is £25,000. Funds will be targeted at local communities where there is a high density of Britannia Building Society employees, members and customers. THE ASHDEN TRUST - Financial assistance is available for projects that focus on climate change, sustainable development and improving the quality of life for deprived communities. Grant awards range from £1,000 to £20,000.

LECHE FOUNDATION GRANTS - The scheme is intended to support charitable bodies or educational organisations undertaking projects involving: The Arts, Conservation and Preservation of historical landscapes and the countryside. In particular, the scheme wishes to support:
* Charitable bodies or organisations associated with the preservation of the nation's countryside, towns, villages and historic landscapes.
* Assistance to academic, educational or other organisations concerned with music, drama, dance and the arts.
* The preservation of buildings and their contents and the repair and conservation of church furniture.
* The promotion of good relations between Britain and Third World countries.

SYLVIA WADDILOVE FOUNDATION awards grant funding to organisations (charities and CICs) in the UK working in a number of areas, including education. Funding is for capital projects and not running costs or salaries. Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available, with preference given to small charities who rely on volunteers, will carry out the work themselves and can demonstrate a successful history of projects. YAPP CHARITABLE TRUST make grants to small registered charities to sustain their existing work, with one of its priorities being children and young people aged 5 – 25. Grants are normally for a maximum of £3,000 per year and most of their grants are for more than one year because they give priority to ongoing needs. UNLTD 4iP AWARDS - New Themes Announced - 4iP is an innovation fund, created by Channel 4, to stimulate public service digital media across the UK. It supports great ideas for websites, games and mobile services which help people improve their lives. UnLtd and 4iP have teamed up to help individuals develop early stage digital media ideas and prototypes. Together they will build the skills, capabilities and partnerships to turn prototypes into social businesses. HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND YOUNG ROOTS PROGRAMME - Young Roots is a grant programme that engages a wide range of young people aged 13-20 (up to 25 for those with special needs) with their heritage. Applications are invited from projects that will help young people develop skills, build confidence and connect with their local community. Projects should be related to the local and culturally varied heritage of the UK. Grants of between £3,000 and £25,000 are available. Projects must also show how young people are managing and participating in the project. Young Roots is a rolling programme and there are no deadlines for applications. YOUTH COMMUNITY ACTION - The Youth Community Action programme is designed to encourage all young people in England to play an active and positive part in their communities. Supported by £146m between 2009-2011, the programme will increase opportunities for teenagers to take part in community action in their school, college or learning programme - with the ambition that, in time, all young people will contribute at least 50 hours by the age of 19. GLOBAL COMMUNITY LINKS PROGRAMME will offer not-for-profits a share of £3m from the Department for International Development (DFID). Voluntary organisations are being offered the chance to apply for grants of up to £10,000 to create links with communities in the developing world and improve understanding of global poverty.
The Global Community Links programme will offer not-for-profit organisations a share of the £3m on offer over three years from the Department for International Development.
The scheme, to be managed by the British Council, is intended to help organisations to form links with community groups in the world's poorest countries. Groups such as: charities, scout troops and women's institutes in the UK will be encouraged to make personal contacts with groups other countries in order to find out more about issues in the developing world and share what they have learned in their own communities. For example, they could hold a day of activities to encourage people to save water, raising awareness of the water shortages faced by a community in Kenya. PRS FOUNDATION AWARDS TO ORGANISATIONS - The Awards to Organisations programme is open to groups that undertake a wide and integrated range of activities relating to new UK music and encourage, promote and stimulate the music through creation, performance and promotion. Priority will be given to organisations that are musically challenging, artistically risk-taking and forward-thinking and develop and support UK-based music creators. The programme offers two levels of funding: Grants up to £3,000 and Grants of more than £3,000. PERCY BILTON CHARITY ORGANSIATION GRANT – The charity focuses on organisations assisting disadvantaged youth, people with disabilities and older people. Social workers may apply on behalf of individuals who have a disability or mental health problem, or who are over 65, for grants to purchase basic furniture, equipment and clothing. There are two types of grant: Large grants – one off payments for capital expenditure of £2,000 and over i.e. furniture and equipment; building/refurbishment projects; and Small grants - Donations of up to £500 towards furnishings and equipment for small projects. This programme is more suitable for smaller organisations. Board meetings are held quarterly in March, June, September and December to consider Large grants. ERNEST COOK TRUST - Grants of up to £10,000 are available to support educational and research projects with an emphasis on the countryside and the environment. The Trustees are particularly interested in applications which provide opportunities for young people to gain qualifications or assist young people train in crafts which are in danger of dying out. All applications are expected to link in with either the National Curriculum or recognised qualifications. Applicants must represent either registered charities or not-for-profit organisations. FOOTBALL FOUNDATION FACILITIES GRANT - The scheme primarily supports organisations that wish to build develop and/or refurbish football facilities in order to sustain and/or increase participation in the sport. These include changing rooms or clubhouses, grass or artificial pitches and multi-use games areas. Applications are welcomed from football clubs, multi-sport clubs, local authorities, all educational establishments, registered charitable organisations, not for profit companies limited by guarantee, industrial and provident societies and unincorporated not for profit organisations. Two types of Facility Grants are available – up to £20,000 and £20,000 +. The Grant will cover up to a maximum of 90% of the overall costs. Applications can be submitted at any time. COMIC RELIEF have launched their UnLtd Sport Relief 'Make It Happen' awards - providing opportunities for young people to bring communities together, to promote understanding and solve problems through sports, arts and recreational activities. There are three funding levels that young people can apply for, they are:
The “Try It” Awards - You can get up to £1,000 to run your project. This is aimed at young people aged 11-21 years old who have never done a community project and just want to give it a go.
The “Shape It” Awards - You can get up to £5,000 to run your project. This is aimed at young people aged 11 - 21 years old who have identified a social issue in their community and have a plan for how they want address it but need support to get their project off the ground.
The “Do It” Awards - You can get up to up to £10,000 to run your project. This is aimed at young people aged 18-21 years old that have already been involved in running their own social project or been involved in social projects through voluntary work. ARTS COUNCIL FOR ENGLAND funds arts activities across England with grants to individuals normally ranging from £1,000 up to £30,000 and to organisations from £1,000 up to £100,000. Four development priorities have been identified for the years 2008-11 and these include ‘young people’. Funding is for activities carried out over a set period and which engage people in arts activities, and help artists and arts organisations in England carry out their work. MEDIABOX offers disadvantaged 13 to 19 year-olds the opportunity to develop and produce creative media projects using film, television, print, radio, games, interactive or online platforms. A key aim of Mediabox is to improve the portrayal of young people in the media, and to enable young people to express their own opinions and gain new skills. PRINCES TRUST COMMUNITY CASH AWARDS is offering grants of between £250 and £5,000 to help young people to set up a project that will benefit their community. The Awards are open to anyone aged 14 to 16 who is in school but struggling, or those aged 16 to 25 who are unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week. Between 2009 and 2011, The Youth of Today Leadership Fund, managed by the Young Foundation, will invest in up to 40 third sector organisations delivering leadership programmes for young people across England. 5 X30 PROJECT is a project that aims to get people of all ages in Devon more active, more often. There are funding pots around developing new physical activity opportunities to support training, transport & access, equipment and also taster sessions. The project has helped develop a wide range of sustainable activities for children and young people including adding activity to after school clubs, youth nights, sports clubs, conservation, adventure bodies and uniformed groups.
