THE NATIONAL HOCKEY FOUNDATION  – capital and operational grants. The Foundation aims to encourage the development and growth of hockey by providing capital and operational funding to the sport through clubs and educational establishments in England and by support to England Hockey's youth development activities.
 Examples of eligible activities include:
o refurbishment costs,
o training,
o educational equipment,
o activity-based learning,
o sports equipment,
o transport and
o project staff.

SoLoCo is a brand new way to fund community change, using the collective power of crowdfunding.  SoLoCo brings you together with like-minded people to support inspiring projects around the UK.SoLoCo isn’t just about helping projects to attract financial support, it’s about raising awareness of what is happening in a community and garnering interest in helping community organizations succeed. It’s a chance to make a practical difference by supporting charities, voluntary groups and not-for-profits that will use your money where it matters most. 
Charities, social enterprises and community groups, which benefit UK communities, can nominate themselves to be featured on the website.  
Potential donors and supporters can then look at project profiles on the website and lend or invest money to support a cause, business or project.
The SoLoCo website defines the term crowd funding as “the activity by which a ‘large’ number of individuals giving money to one distinct activity within a given time scale.

THE DICKIE BIRD FOUNDATION
– grants to help young people aged under 18 participate in sport. 
Support for individuals throughout Great Britain with the aim of helping disadvantaged young people (under the age of 18) to participate in sport, to the best of their ability, in the sport of their choice, irrespective of their social circumstances, culture or ethnicity.  
By participating in sporting activities, it is hoped that health will be improved, physical education will be advanced, and chances both inside and outside sport will be enhanced.  
Eligible costs are: 
o sports kit,
o coaching; and
o training.  
Grants between £100 and £5,000 are available, although more may be given in certain circumstances.

WARBURTONS BAKERS 'SUPPORTING CHARITIES AND COMMUNITIES - Warburtons provides financial support to charities, organisations and initiatives which aim to have a positive effect on young people, their families and the surrounding community.  The funder is particularly interested in projects and activities which improve life chances and provide opportunities for those who face more challenges than most. Charities or community organisations may apply for grant support, although the funder states that it is unable to support all applications due to the high volume of requests for grant aid. THE ALEC DICKSON TRUST - The Alec Dickson Trust (founder of VSO) supports young people who are able to demonstrate that through volunteering or community service they can enhance the lives of others, particularly those most marginalised by society (e.g. homeless people, people with disabilities, etc.). Individual or small groups of young people living in the UK may apply. Grants up to £500 are available. Applications for grants are invited from individuals aged 30 and under or from small groups of young people who believe their actions to be in pursuit of the aims of the Trust. ERNEST COOK TRUST - Registered charities, schools and not-for-profit organisations wishing to encourage young people's interest either in the countryside and the environment, the arts or aiming to raise levels of literacy and numeracy can apply for funding to the Ernest Cook Trust.  The Trust operates two grant making programmes:
The small grants programme (under £4,000) supports state schools and small registered charities which would like to undertake projects which meet the Trust's objectives and require a small amount of pump-priming in order for such projects to take place.  
The large grants programme (Grants over £4,000) is aimed at more comprehensive education programmes. Grants are normally awarded for one year only.  Trustees meet several times a year to consider applications. Find out more here.  (Posted 28/06/11)

FUNDING FROM CHARITY TRUST – The Tesco Charity Trust runs two funding schemes - the Community Awards and a Larger Grants scheme. 
Community Awards
The scheme provides one-off donations of between £500 and £4,000 to local projects that support: children and their education and welfare; elderly people and adults and children with disabilities. There are four rounds of funding each year. Applications should be made via the online application form.
Larger Grant Applications
The Tesco Charity Trust Trustees also consider grant applications at their tri-annual meetings. NATIONWIDE FOUNDATION SEEKS APPLICATIONS UNDER ITS SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME - Following the review of its funding programme, the Nationwide Foundation has announced that it is currently accepting applications for funding under its Small Grants Programme. Under the programme, grants of between £500 and £5,000 are available to registered charities with a yearly income of less than £750,000. 
The Small Grants Programme support projects that:
* Tackle financial exclusion affecting disadvantaged groups across the UK
* Address housing issues & homelessness among vulnerable groups across the UK.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE LOTTERY SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME ‘AWARDS FOR ALL’ - Awards for All is consistently the best and most accessible small grants programme in England with a straightforward, easy to use online application form and a quick turnaround period of 8-12 weeks for all applications. The programme offers up front grants of between £300 and £10,000 with no match funding requirement. More than 50% of applications receive an award. Recently Awards for All has recently introduced a new application form and made a couple of important modifications to the programme:
* It will now give £10,000 to an organisation in one year [it used to be two years]. This could be in the form of one bid, or two bids for different projects, not adding up to more than £10,000
* It has changed their rules on repeat funding; the guidance is now that they will not fund: "existing activites and repeat or regular events, including those we have funded before (unless it is more than three years since those activities or events took place, or they have been developed, for example they are going to be run with new beneficiary types or in a new area)". THE WAKEHAM TRUST: Funding to Improve Local Communities - Groups of individuals as well as small community and voluntary groups within the UK that want to improve their communities can apply for funding through the Wakeham Trust. They provide grants to help people rebuild their communities. THE JUBILEE WOODS PROJECT – free Tree Packs for communities and schools to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee - The Woodland Trust is offering people the chance to be at the heart of the Queen's 2012 Diamond Jubilee celebrations, by planting trees to celebrate the Queen's 60 years on the throne.  The project, which has the Queen’s support and HRH The Princess Royal as patron, aims to plant six million trees across the UK and involve millions of people. BIG ISSUE INVEST (Social Enterprise Investment Fund) - Big Issue Invest (BII), a specialist provider of finance for social enterprises, has raised £3 million for its pioneering Social Enterprise Investment Fund and is looking to invest in more successful social enterprises looking to scale-up their social impact. BII can provide a range of financing options, from loans to equity from £50,000 to £500,000 and with terms of up to ten years. Loans may be unsecured and repayments may be tied to future income, profits or surpluses. Typically, organisations most suitable for investment will already have a trading history and must be able to demonstrate the capacity to deliver while generating sustainable trading income and long-term profitability and social impact. LANDFILL OPERATOR BIFFA SMALL GRANTS SCHEME - Often groups only need a small amount of money to make a difference to a local facility, be it a community building, nature reserve, cultural facility or outdoor space. Biffa’s Small Grants Scheme offers quicker access to lower levels of funding to make these projects happen. You can apply for between £250 and £5,000. THE TRUE COLOURS TRUST –  The trust supports a large number of excellent local organisations and projects that support disabled children and their families on a daily basis. The Trust has a small grants programme, open to application at any time, which provides grants between £1,000 and £10,000, usually for one-off purposes, to help smaller organisations develop and deliver programmes for children, their siblings and families. PRINCE'S TRUST COMMUNITY CASH AWARDS – grants of up to £5,000 are available for young people to help set up a project that will benefit their community. LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT FUND FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED BUSINESSES AND SOCIAL ENTERPRISES
- Around 13,000 small and medium sized businesses and social enterprises that demonstrate a potential for growth will benefit from the grant.   A match funded grant of up to £1,000 can be spent on leadership training and coaching that helps grow the business, improving productivity and competitiveness. CLORE POETRY AND LITERATURE AWARDS - The Clore Duffield Foundation has launched a new Small Grants Programme to replace its previous one. Called the Clore Poetry and Literature Awards, grants of between £1000 and £10,000 will be available over the next five years to

ANDY FANSHAWE MEMORIAL TRUST - The trust supports projects that allow disadvantaged young people the chance to develop an existing interest in the great outdoors. The Trust usually supports programmes that are run by schools or youth groups, but welcomes applications from individuals, but these must have a referee. COMMUNITYBUILDERSbegins search for six flagship regeneration projects. Communitybuilders, a fund that supports community-based and community-led organisations in England, opens for applications at noon on Monday 17 October 2011 . Awards will be made to up to six of the most promising examples of sustainable, community regeneration projects who will become flagship investees for the new era of the Fund, endowed to the Adventure Capital Fund (ACF) in March this year.  Communitybuilders is offering predominantly loans to organisations that are seeking to become more sustainable and independent and that can demonstrate they are having a significant positive impact in their communities as providers of multiple services and facilities. The Fund, managed on the ACF’s behalf by The Social Investment Business, will provide capital funding to community enterprises that have operated for at least 12 months and are looking to build their long term financial viability and increase their ability to deliver significant social impact in their communities.  Click here for more information. ACRE FUNDING FOR RURAL COMMUNITY BUILDINGS -  The Fund is managed by Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) and enables building, renovation and refurbishment work that would otherwise not take place, to be carried out.
Applications are submitted on rolling basis, no deadline is set. Although the maximum value of funding is £20,000, it can be flexible.  Applications are made by submitting an application form, which is available on request. FUNDING FOR ENTERPRISING SPORTS PROJECTS - The Daily Telegraph, in partnership with the Royal Bank of Scotland has launched a new grants programme to support community and amateur sports clubs across the country. They will be able to apply for a £1,000 Amateur Sports Clubs Grant packages. Five grants will be awarded on a monthly basis. The funding can be used for a wide range of purposes such as improving facilities, setting up tournaments, etc. To apply for the grant, clubs need to submit an application of no more than 250 words why your community sports club needs a £1,000 grant and what use you would put it to. CASH 4 CLUBS - FUNDING FOR SPORTS CLUBS - Local grassroots community sports clubs in the UK that require funding for equipment, facilities or coaching can apply for grants of between £250 and £1,000 through Cash-4-Clubs. The Cash 4 Clubs scheme is funded by Betfair and is supported by SportsAid, the charity for sports people.  Clubs should play an active role in the community, encourage social interaction and fitness, and be registered with their sports’ National Governing body to apply. LLOYDS TSB FOUNDATION - The foundation supports registered charities that help disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in communities across England and Wales. The Foundation’s approach to good grant making is designed to work with charities from initial enquiry through the lifetime of a grant. It is a consistent and transparent approach that ensures the Foundation gives the best support and advice to charities irrespective of the outcome of their application. BREAKS FOR KIDS is a charitable fund, run by YHA (Youth Hostel Association) that supports under-privileged young people under the age of 18, travelling as part of an organised group such as; youth club, church group, or a group organised by a body such as the Youth Offending Group or Connexions. They offer grants for up to 50% of the cost of accommodation and food. HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND YOUNG ROOTS PROGRAMME -  Young Roots is a grant programme that engages a wide range of young people aged 13-20 (up to 25 for those with special needs) with their heritage. Applications are invited from projects that will help young people develop skills, build confidence and connect with their local community. Projects should be related to the local and culturally varied heritage of the UK. Grants of between £3,000 and £25,000 are available. Projects must also show how young people are managing and participating in the project. Young Roots is a rolling programme and there are no deadlines for applications. THE FAMILY FUND TRUST - The Family Fund helps families with disabled and seriously ill children and young people aged 17 and under, to have choices and the opportunity to enjoy ordinary life. Grants are awarded for things that make life easier and more enjoyable for the disabled child, young person and their family, such as washing machines, driving lessons, computers and holidays to families on the lowest of incomes to help relieve the stress of everyday life. THE MARK LEONARD TRUST (supporting environmental education in the UK) - The Trust is one of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts and focuses on environmental education in the UK. Not for profit organisations and organisation with a charitable purpose can apply for funding.
In particular the Trust seeks to support projects that focus on:
o finding practical ways of involving children and young adults; 
o sustainable agriculture and bio-diversity; 
o sustainable transport, energy efficiency and renewable energy; and 
o youth work that supports the rehabilitation of young people involved in anti-social or criminal activities.

DEMAND FOR BIG LOTTERY FUND GRANTS IS INCREASING, SAYS LOTTERY - New guidance from the Big Lottery Fund says there will be £100m in the programme this year but demand is increasing.  Organisations applying for a Reaching Communities grant from the Big Lottery Fund have a chance of success of less than 10 per cent.  Reaching Communities awards grants of between £10,000 and £500,000 for projects in deprived areas. Public and voluntary sector organisations can apply.  The guidance reveals that in 2010/11 the programme received 5,730 outline proposals asking for a total of more than £1bn. Of these, 1,322 were invited to apply formally and the programme made 500 grants, totalling just under £125m during the year.  A BLF spokeswoman said it had introduced a new applications procedure in 2010 to eliminate more bidders at the outline proposal stage.   Click here for more information  (Updated 27/4/11)

HENRY SMITH CHARITY is a large grant making charity that supports organisations and charities for initiatives and projects that address social inequality and economic disadvantage. The small grants programme is for grants of £500 to £20,000 and your income must be less than £150,000. Its Young People category covers projects maximising the potential of young people who experience educational, social and economic disadvantage; including young people in, or leaving care. ARTHUR RANK CENTRE - COMPUTERS FOR RURAL PEOPLE. The Arthur Rank Centre is committed to supporting the rural community, and has set up the “Computers for Rural People” scheme to provide computers at very low cost to encourage people to take the first step. So if you think a computer might be useful, but can’t afford several hundred pounds just to try, they can help you.  They can provide a computer of your own, pre-loaded with Microsoft software, and delivered to your door with 3 months warranty, to get you started. THE CO-OPERATIVE GROUP COMMUNITY FUND - The Community Fund is the Co-operative Group's main grant making programme. Charitable organisations and community groups can apply for grants of between £100 and £2,000 (£500 if the applicant is a newly formed group) to help them find co-operative solutions to community challenges. SKINNERS COMPANY - The Skinners' Company Lady Neville Charity was formally set up in 1978 and its aim is to provide grants that will make a clear and significant contribution to grassroots charitable organisations working in designated priority areas.  One-off grants of up to £1,000 are made to small registered charities and not-for-profit organisations based in the UK and organisations employing less than the equivalent of four full-time paid staff, which are working in the following priority areas: Disability, local heritage, local community and performing and visual arts.  For more information please contact them on. JAMES CAAN FOUNDATION - The foundation was set up by Dragon’s Den investor James Caan in 2006, and supports UK charities as well as education initiatives in Pakistan.
The objectives of the foundation are as follows:
1.     For the public benefit to promote education (including social and physical training) in such ways as the charity trustees think fit.
2.     To assist in the treatment and care of those suffering from mental or physical illness of any description or in need of rehabilitation as a result of such illness. This can be through the provision of facilities for work and recreation, or the support of research into the causes and cures of diseases
3.     To support any other purpose which is deemed to be charitable.

BRITANNIA BUILDING SOCIETY FOUNDATION GRANTS - The foundation offers grants for charities and schools to carry out educational projects, with a focus on promoting numeracy and financial literacy and provides an annual £500,000 funding pot.  The minimum grant award available is £1,000 and the maximum award is £25,000.  Funds will be targeted at local communities where there is a high density of Britannia Building Society employees, members and customers. THE ASHDEN TRUST - Financial assistance is available for projects that focus on climate change, sustainable development and improving the quality of life for deprived communities.  Grant awards range from £1,000 to £20,000.

UNLTD 4iP AWARDS - 4iP is an innovation fund, created by Channel 4, to stimulate public service digital media across the UK. It supports great ideas for websites, games and mobile services which help people improve their lives. UnLtd and 4iP have teamed up to help individuals develop early stage digital media ideas and prototypes. Together they will build the skills, capabilities and partnerships to turn prototypes into social businesses. GLOBAL COMMUNITY LINKS PROGRAMME will offer not-for-profits a share of £3m from the Department for International Development (DFID). Voluntary organisations are being offered the chance to apply for grants of up to £10,000 to create links with communities in the developing world and improve understanding of global poverty.
Groups such as: charities, scout troops and women's institutes in the UK will be encouraged to make personal contacts with groups other countries in order to find out more about issues in the developing world and share what they have learned in their own communities. See here for more information (Posted 19/03/10)

PRS FOUNDATION AWARDS TO ORGANISATIONS - The programme is open to groups that undertake a wide and integrated range of activities relating to new UK music and encourage, promote and stimulate the music through creation, performance and promotion. Priority will be given to organisations that are musically challenging, artistically risk-taking and forward-thinking and develop and support UK-based music creators. The programme offers two levels of funding: Grants up to £3,000 and Grants of more than £3,000. PERCY BILTON CHARITY ORGANISATION GRANT – The charity focuses on organisations assisting disadvantaged youth, people with disabilities and older people. Social workers may apply on behalf of individuals who have a disability or mental health problem, or who are over 65, for grants to purchase basic furniture, equipment and clothing. There are two types of grant: Large grants – one off payments for capital expenditure of £2,000 and over i.e. furniture and equipment; building/refurbishment projects; and Small grants - providing funding of up to £500 towards furnishings and equipment for small projects. This programme is more suitable for smaller organisations. Board meetings are held quarterly in March, June, September and December to consider Large grants. FOOTBALL FOUNDATION  FACILITIES GRANT - The scheme primarily supports organisations that wish to build develop and/or refurbish football facilities in order to sustain and/or increase participation in the sport. These include changing rooms or clubhouses, grass or artificial pitches and multi-use games areas. Applications are welcomed from football clubs, multi-sport clubs, local authorities, all educational establishments, registered charitable organisations, not for profit companies limited by guarantee, industrial and provident societies and unincorporated not for profit organisations. Two types of Facility Grants are available – up to £20,000 and £20,000 +. The Grant will cover up to a maximum of 90% of the overall costs. Applications can be submitted at any time. COMIC RELIEF have launched their UnLtd Sport Relief 'Make It Happen' awards - providing opportunities for young people to bring communities together, to promote understanding and solve problems through sports, arts and recreational activities.  There are three funding levels that young people can apply for, they are:
The “Try It” Awards -  You can get up to £1,000 to run your project.  This is aimed at young people aged 11-21 years old who have never done a community project and just want to give it a go.
The “Shape It” Awards - You can get up to £5,000 to run your project. This is aimed at young people aged 11 - 21 years old who have identified a social issue in their community and have a plan for how they want address it but need support to get their project off the ground. 
The “Do It” Awards - You can get up to up to £10,000 to run your project. ARTS COUNCIL FOR ENGLAND
funds arts activities across England with grants to individuals normally ranging from £1,000 up to £30,000 and to organisations from £1,000 up to £100,000. Four development priorities have been identified for the years 2008-11 and these include ‘young people’. Funding is for activities carried out over a set period and which engage people in arts activities, and help artists and arts organisations in England carry out their work. MEDIABOX
offers disadvantaged 13 to 19 year-olds the opportunity to develop and produce creative media projects using film, television, print, radio, games, interactive or online platforms. A key aim of Mediabox is to improve the portrayal of young people in the media, and to enable young people to express their own opinions and gain new skills. Mediabox is delivered through five strands, each with their own application process. PRINCES TRUST COMMUNITY CASH AWARDS is offering grants of between £250 and £5,000 to help young people to set up a project that will benefit their community.  The Awards are open to anyone aged 14 to 16 who is in school but struggling, or those aged 16 to 25 who are unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week.  Funding of up to £1,000 is available for 14–16 year olds; 16–25 year olds can obtain up to £5,000. THE YOUTH OF TODAY supports innovative leadership opportunities for young people. Between 2009 and 2011, The Youth of Today Leadership Fund, managed by the Young Foundation, will invest in up to 40 third sector organisations delivering leadership programmes for young people across England.  Information about the Fund is available on The Youth of Today website .  The final round of Scaling Up is due to close on 23/06/10. The next round of Young Leadership monies will be announed soon. 5 X30 PROJECT is a project that aims to get people of all ages in Devon  more active, more often. There are funding pots around developing new physical activity opportunities to support training, transport & access, equipment and also taster sessions. The project has helped develop a wide range of sustainable activities for children and young people including adding activity to after school clubs, youth nights, sports clubs, conservation, adventure bodies and uniformed groups. EQUITABLE CHARITABLE TRUST is a grant making charity that supports education projects for disabled and disadvantaged children and young people under the age of 25.  Charitable organisations (and independent special schools) can apply for funding of up to £30,000.  Grants can be made for project costs, capital expenditure or for the salary costs of a post.  The Trust has three priorities for its grant making and it is important to read the Trust’s guidelines and list of exclusions in full before making an application.  Ring 020 7264 4993 or click here for further details.
