Linking for a Change!
Linking for a Change! The site that links sustainable schools in the South West
How it Works
NB: This site will be going live shortly - when it does you will be able to:
Sign up to the service by simply telling us about your current work and aspirations in relation to sustainability; we have provided an on-line questionnaire to help you do this.
At the end of the questionnaire you can tell us what you are looking for in a potential partner school, e.g. level of education, location, sustainability theme(s); you can also search for ‘keywords’.
Our software will then search through all the registered schools and service providers and will identify those that best match your chosen criteria. You will then be able to send an e-mail to your chosen school(s) and organisations and make contact.
Who set up this website?
Using funding supplied under the Department for Education and Skills’ Sustainable Schools Strategy (£25k for Financial Year 2006/07), Government Office in the South West (GOSW) engaged members of the South West Learning for Sustainability Coalition to develop a regional networking facility for sustainable schools. The project was coordinated by Learning South West.
Rationale
Many schools already receive support from a range of service providers although these services are uncoordinated. Meanwhile, some of the best advice and support that a school can receive is that of colleagues from other schools working on similar sustainability-related themes. The challenge for both schools and service providers is to identify those schools that are developing similar/relevant initiatives. While schools link informally on a variety of issues, there has been no structured means for those pursuing innovation in sustainability to find out about each other and lend peer support. There is now.
