MENTAL HEALTH TRANSITIONS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has produced a new guide:  Mental Health Transitions for Young People, the guide identifies ten key principles for improving transition, these include:
? ensuring that young people fully undertstand their mental health problem, proposed treatment and support options
? the transition should take into account the young person's whole life including family, friends, housing and education
? young people should move to flexible and age appropriate services
? staff need to work collaboratively with other services such as social care, health and voluntary services. (Posted 29/11/11)

FREE ADVICE AND GUIDANCE QUALIFICATION FOR THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR -
The Learning Curve is launching the new Certificate in Advice and Guidance.  The qualifications are aimed at individuals who are working directly with clients in organisations providing advice and guidance services in settings such as careers guidance, Connexions, youth work and youth justice, training providers, prison services, charitable and voluntary services and housing.   This qualification provides the learner with an opportunity to review their own performance, expand their knowledge and understanding and provide effective continual professional development.  The employer benefits include a qualified workforce, more favourable for professional indemnity insurance and a raised level of perceived professionalism in the market place.  Candidates aged 19+ without a full level 2 qualification (or equivalent) could receive this training free of charge – eligibility rules apply. CHILD EXPLOITATION AND ONLINE PROTECTION (CEOP) - ClickCEOP is an advice and help centre where you can access guidance on a broad range of topics to help protect children, or alternatively report a concern directly to CEOP.  It’s children and young people’s programme Thinkuknow is used in schools nationwide to educate young people about how to stay safe online. CEOP has been working with social networking sites such as Facebook, BEBO, MSN and other major service providers to put internet safety advice at the fingertips of children through the ClickCEOP application. Facebook users should visit www.facebook.com/clickceop to add the ClickCEOP app to their profile. The app is free and easy to use, and gives immediate access to internet safety advice as well as being able to report any suspicions. YOUTH WORK TRAINING ADVICE - The National Youth Agency has published a revised set of FAQs on youth work training on its website.  Questions covered include how to gain experience in youth work in a local area and how to become qualified.  (Updated 17/5/11)
