Rosie's Story
Learning South West’s professional development events not only provide high quality training but also offer valuable opportunities to meet other professionals and share good practice, according to Rosie Brown from Strode College.
Rosie teaches new teachers and assessor awards at Strode College - helping professionals make the move into teaching and training NVQ assessors in the workplace. Rosie has worked in further education for more than 20-years and has attended many of Learning South West’s professional development events including ‘Teacher Education’ and ‘Assessor Training.’
Rosie enjoys the opportunity the events offer to meet the highly respected professionals delivering the training and the chance to share good practice with her peers. “Learning South West offers some very good courses,” said Rosie. “Meeting other people who are teaching the same courses is really helpful as we can share ideas and good practice. The events provide an opportunity for networking which is very important.”
Following a professional development event with national trainer Geoff Petty Rosie was keen to see her colleagues benefit. “It was through Learning South West that I got to meet Geoff, felt inspired by him, and invited him to Strode College to deliver a training session.”
“Everyone at Learning South West is very supportive and helpful and Bishops Hull House is a nice place to go to and very welcoming. It is a very worthwhile organisation that meets the needs of lots people in the local area. It can be difficult to travel to London so it is very useful to have somebody on hand and so close. “
Shonagh Butler, Head of Quality & Staff Development at Strode College, added: ”Paula came to visit me at the college in the first few months of my new role and gave me sound professional advice. I have attended many of the professional forums and staff development events run by Learning South West and found them to be very helpful, especially with regards to networking with colleagues in similar roles across colleges and organisations within the South West.”
