Paula Jones, SWitch CETT Manager and Deputy Chief Executive at Learning South West, welcomed delegates to the conference which focussed on the work and findings of SWitch partnership activities, from September 2007 to October 2008.

Keynote speaker Ann-Marie Bathmaker, Professor of Applied Rearch in FE & Lifelong Learning at the University of the West of England, Bristol, (UWE) lead the day with a session entitled "Higher Education in Further Education & Workplace Settings:  what are the implications for teaching excellence and waht it means to be a teacher in the Learning & Skills sector?"

The conference celebrated the success of the SWitch CETT partnership's first year


Delegates had the opportunity to attend two workshops during the day, led by members of the SWitch Project Teams. The workshops covered: 

  • Models of recruitment, initial assessment, induction and on-going support for trainees on teacher training programmes
  • Disseminating model Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
  • Models of good practice in mentor training
  • Supporting Mentors In Adult Learning Environments (SMILE)
  • Surveying Teacher trainees’ satisfaction - what can it tell us?
  • Contextualising ITT - addressing the needs of WBL, ACL and Voluntary & Community Learning in ITT programmes through innovative models of delivery
  • Promoting and supporting the contextualisation of ITT to make programmes more relevant and accessible to trainees working in non-FE contexts
