SWitch Partnership activities over the period Sept '07 - Oct '08

Keynote Speaker:
Our keynote speaker is Ann-Marie Bathmaker, Professor of Applied Rearch in FE & Lifelong Learning, University of the West of England, Bristol, who will lead the day with a session entitled "Higher Education in Further Education & Workplace Settings: what are the implications for teaching excellence and waht it means to be a teacher in the Learning & Skills sector?" Ann-Marie is part of The FurtherHigher Project which is researching widening participation in English higher education.
Purpose of the Day:
• To share our discoveries in excellence in supporting teacher training for the Learning & Skills sector
• To provide networking opportunities for colleagues with shared interests around teacher training and CPD
• To provide opportunity for teacher educators and managers to share & discuss issues and successes
Who should attend?
• SWitch member organisations
• Representatives from other CETTS
• Those interested in finding out more about the work around Initial Teacher Training in the Learning & Skills sector undertaken to date by SWitch
SWitch Project Led Workshop Sessions:
Delegates will have the opportunity to attend two workshops during the day on the following themes. Each workshop will be led by members from the relevant SWitch Project Teams:
• Models of recruitment, initial assessment, induction and on-going support for trainees on teacher training programmes
• Disseminating model Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
• Models of good practice in mentor training
• Supporting Mentors In Adult Learning Environments (SMILE)
• Surveying Teacher trainees’ satisfaction - what can it tell us?
• Contextualising ITT - addressing the needs of WBL, ACL and Voluntary & Community Learning in ITT programmes through innovative models of delivery
• Promoting and supporting the contextualisation of ITT to make programmes more relevant and accessible to trainees working in non-FE contexts
In addition we will be sharing our successes around:
• Working in partnership to implement change
• Supporting the implementation of the workforce reforms through a regional SWitch Advisory service
