APPRENTICESHIP
 grants available to small and medium businesses.  The Learning Curve based is pleased to announce that employers taking on an apprentice aged 16-24 may be eligible for a grant of £1500 towards wage costs.  This grant is open to small and medium businesses (under 250 employees) who are recruiting an apprentice for the first time or who have not recruited an apprentice within the last three years.  The Learning Curve currently offers apprenticeships in the following areas:
• Business Administration
• Customer Service
• Team Leading
• Management
• Management of Volunteers
• IT Application Specialist

GOVERNANCE IN THE VOLUNTARY AND COMMUNITY SECTOR - The National Open College Network (NOCN) with the support of Skills- Third Sector have launched two new short qualifications of interest to voluntary and community groups. The Level 2 and Level 3 Awards (6 credits) in Governance in the Voluntary and Community Sector are intended to help people develop the skills and understanding they need to be effective trustees or management committee members. BARCLAYS MONEY SKILLS ' CHAMPIONS' is a programme designed to build the money management skills of young people, particularly those who are not currently in education, employment or training.The young people involved are provided with support to build their financial skills and confidence, as well as training to enable them to become Barclays Money Skills 'champions' within their own peer group.Seven innovative youth and information charities are working in partnership with Barclays to develop the Barclays Money Skills ‘champions’ programme. This innovative peer education programme is currently being piloted in various locations.We are looking for more youth workers and young people to participate in the programme.

SPORTED - FUNDING AND MENTOR SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS IN THE SOUTH WEST - Sported is a charity set up to support organisations that use sport as a tool to engage with disadvantaged young people, and uses that sports opportunity to support them whether that be through education, social interaction, youth work support and training. We offer our membership for free to groups that use sport, or would like to use sport but are unsure how to get started, to target 11-25yrs olds, who would be classed as deprived, disadvantaged or disengaged.
 Sported has a number of support packages for its members including a small and large grants programme, mentor support for income / expenditure and project planning and an experts support process where members can ask questions about their projects and get expert advice.

ASDAN is running a Short Course, RoadWise which has been developed in conjunction with Cheshire and Warrington Connexions for use as a focus for work with young people around issues of road use. YOUTH LEADERSHIP AND RESILIENCE WORKSHOP – RED CROSS
offer FREE personal resilience workshops that are tailored to the needs of young people aged 13 -25 years olds. The aims of this one day course are to:
• Understand leadership qualities and review one's own leadership qualities and potential.
• Understand the role of trust and respect in effective team leadership
• Take part in simulations to develop and apply knowledge and skill
• Learn basic first aid and apply it to scenarios on the day
• 5 hour certificated course by the British Red cross

OPPORTUNITIES TO BE INVOLVED IN EDUCATION TRAINING STANDARDS ACTIVITY - THE NATIONAL YOUTH AGENCY s seeking suitably experienced and qualified youth work professionals to get involved in its education training standards (ETS) work through joining professional validation panels.  These panels provide peer scrutiny and recommendations to ETS on the professional validation of higher education youth and community work programmes.  The role will involve participation on a two-day visit, alongside three colleagues, to a higher education institution seeking validation. The frequency of involvement is flexible.

SPORTED will host a series of free Member support workshops throughout the South West region. The workshops will provide an opportunity for existing Members to attend a "How to Succeed in Securing Funding for my Club" workshop, as well as the chance for new Members to register with sported. and attend the event.
The workshops are being delivered in partnership with County Sports Partnerships (CSP), with the CSP's securing host venues for the events and providing additional local funding and sports initiative guidance.
All the events will follow the same format of "New sported. Membership registration" at 5.30pm, "How to succeed in securing funding for my club" workshop at6.30pm.

THE UNIVERSITY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE Youth Courses requires a JNC qualified youth worker to act as an external examiner from October 2012, to oversee the field work element of our undergraduate youth courses.   We require someone who has had 3 years recent experience in a senior post within the youth and community sector and has a passion for supporting the training of professionals in the youth workforce.  Previous experience with such youth programmes/being an external examiner, would be desirable but not essential.
