NEW FAQ - QUALIFICATIONS IN WORKING WITH VULNERABLE YOUNG PEOPLE - NCVYS is pleased to advise that in conjunction with ABC Awards and the Open University they have produced a FAQ for training providers outlining the QCF qualifications at levels 3 & 4 connected to working with vulnerable young people. SKILLS FUNDING AGENCY (SFA) AND YOUNG PEOPLE'S LEANING AGENCY (YPLA) HELPLINE - If you need any help, then the Third Sector National Learning Alliance has launched a telephone support service for third sector organisations to help with the transition from the LSC to the successor agencies (SFLA & YPLA).

CAREER INFORMATION SHEETS - NCVYS has produced seven career information sheets (PDFs) for individuals interested in paid or voluntary work connected to working with young people in the voluntary and community youth sector. Each information sheet covers areas such as what it is like to be in the role, the work, routes in, qualifications and training. The seven are:

A GOOD YOUTH WORKER IS...?
This film was produced for the Regional Youth Work Unit as part of the CWDC Participation Project in 2009/2010. Young people and youth workers from across the region have contributed their views as to what makes a good youth worker. The film would be useful in introductory training for youth workers, and as a promotional tool to explain youth work to a wider audience. (Posted 10/05/10)

CWDC believes that integrated working is essential if children are to gain access to the full range of services they need and to ensure early intervention where necessary. Aiming to support practitioners in working together more effectively, CWDC has launched a microsite for integrated working, offering a range of free resources to help practitioners work together. SHARE STREET is a new online community of learning for the children and young people's workforce. It makes it easier for everyone who works and volunteers with children, young people and their families to connect, be inspired, discuss ideas and share resources.
Take a stroll down Share Street and visit the newsagent for the latest news. Be motivated by engaging films from the workforce in the cinema and find and share resources in the library. Pop into the café to network and join discussions with colleagues across the children and young people’s workforce, and read and comment on inspiring case studies behind the rainbow. YOUNG PEOPLE'S WORKFORCE CWDC -The Children's Workforce Development Council has published a report suggesting an estimated six million workers and volunteers are involved in supporting Britain's young people survive the "complex challenges" of their teenage years. The report, A Picture Worth Millions, reveals that more than 775,000 people work in paid employment with young people, while more than 5,272,000 volunteer. (Posted 15/03/10)

The web portal is developing it's services to support Third Sector Staff and Volunteers and works closely with Poole and Bournemouth Children's Trusts and other statutory agencies. VOLUNTEERING QUALIFICATION - The ASDAN Level 3 Community Volunteering Qualification (CVQ) has been allocated UCAS points. This means that volunteers achieving a full Level 3 Certificate (13 credits) will gain 50 UCAS points, (broadly equivalent to an AS level), or 30 points for the shorter CVQ Award (8 credits), and will have a gained useful knowledge and skills for success in Higher education (and employment). The full level 1 and level 2 certificates have also been allocated School/College Performance table points. (The full Level 2 certificate is worth 46 points, equivalent to a Grade B GCSE.) The CVQ is accredited by Ofqual and can provide a recognised qualification for volunteers on programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Vfifty (V50), The Prince’s Trust and the Youth Achievement Awards. RELAYS (Regional Educational Legacy in Arts and Youth Sport) is an innovative programme designed to inspire young people and their communities to participate in, create and promote cultural and sporting activities in the South West. Its aim is to create a positive and lasting legacy beyond 2012. It focuses on 3 main themes – sport and wellbeing; arts and culture; knowledge and learning. This contains all you need to know if you are thinking of embarking or supporting someone to take Level 2 or 3 Youth Work Qualifications.
