CURRENT CONSULTATIONS

SAFE NETWORK After March 2013 the Safe Network will no longer receive funding from the Department for Education and will need to become self-sustaining to continue offering its services. They are exploring a number of ways to fund their service - including the idea of a subscription model for their website and resources - and would appreciate your views if you have used their services. They anticipate that their basic resources will remain freely accessible to all whilst additional components would incur a cost. Please take five minutes to share your opinions to help Safe Network  understand what should remain freely accessible and what could be included in a subscription model. Closing date 11th May 2012 (Posted 25/04/12)

POSITIVE FOR YOUTH - GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES NEW CONSULTATION INTO DRAFT REVISED STATUTORY GUIDANCE - The Government is consulting on new draft guidance to secure sufficient educational and recreational leisure-time activities for the improvement of the wellbeing of 13 to 19 year olds as set out in section 501B of the Education and Inspections Act (2006).The purpose of this consultation is to gather views on draft statutory guidance to which local authorities must have regard in fulfilling their obligations under this duty.  The deadline to respond is 25th May 2012.  The consultation can be found here.  I have put together a powerpoint with the guidance and the consultation questions - feel free to use it for your meetings and training and let me know if you would like to be part of the SW RYWU response.    (Posted 06/03/12

GIVE IT BACK GEORGE The cap on income tax reliefs that George Osborne announced in the Budget will negatively affect many voluntary sector organisations, both large and small. It will discourage the major donors that give large, one-off donations to many charities. And it's important to remember that today's gifts are also tomorrow's grants. These donors are behind many of the grant-giving trusts and foundations that support frontline organisations. It's also worrying that the Treasury are now equating giving to charity with avoiding tax. Sir Stuart Etherington -Chief Executive, NCVO and many others across the sector believe the Chancellor must reverse this decision. That's why they've launched a new campaign which hundreds of organisations have already signed up in support. Help NCVO send a powerful message to the Government by:
•
Adding your backing for the campaign on the website.
• Raising awareness of the campaign among your supporters, staff, your local MP and any other of your political contacts.
• Showing your support on Twitter - we're campaigning using the hashtag #giveitbackgeorge (Posted 29/03/12)

OTHER VOICE MATTERS

CHOOSE YOUTH SW RALLY
The rally was held at the YMCA in Bridgwater on 16th February 2012.  Strong messages of support were heard and given by over 250 young people and their workers.  Young people took part on campaigning workshops including one that produced a rap for the rally.  More details can be seen on this short video.
